For anyone who’s ever worked his or her butt off only to . . . well, not actually work his or her butt off, you’ve probably come to resent, if not outright loathe, those who can drop weight quickly and effortlessly. If you find yourself in this category, you might want to quit reading right now and return to funny cat videos on YouTube. If, however, you happen to love to hate, keep reading.
I started off the New Diet Year, like so many others, on January 3. Unlike so many others, however, I began with one of my fasts. I’ve found the best way to break a Chex Mix addiction is to just give the ol’ pancreas a break for twenty-four hours.
That’s how I dropped three and a half pounds in one day: by taking in only about 190 liquid calories on Monday. On Tuesday I ate about 960 calories: a huge gain. I lost another two pounds that day. On Wednesday things were almost back to “normal” at nearly 1,800 calories, but I still managed to drop about another pound and a half.
Hmmm . . . seven pounds three days. I could get used to that rate of decline:
Week 21 | |
Starting Weight | 233.0 |
Current Weight | 218.8 |
Change from Last Week | -0.9 |
Lost So Far | 14.2 |
Pounds To Go | 19.8 |
And that’s where the week’s loss ended. The glass-half-full version of Charlie thinks this is awesome. It really makes up for the short and quick weight gain that last week of 2010. It got me back below the red line: 220. And my body overall started to feel halfway normal again. Unfortunately, the glass-half-empty Charlie is the one in charge of this blog. That Charlie couldn’t help but notice that the graph stopped right where it spent the last three months of 2010: hovering around the 216 mark. That Charlie noted that the average loss for the week was just under one pound.
The glass-half-full Charlie still feels optimistic about 2011. The holidays, in the big picture, weren’t bad at all. I’m 1) essentially where I left off before the break; 2) nowhere near in a “gained it all back” position; and 3) back in a good mindset. But the glass-half-empty Charlie is painfully aware that I’ve done this eighty or ninety times already and he isn’t quite ready to declare, “This time’ll be different!”
Both Charlies, though, are just happy they had something interesting to write about this week.

Woohoooo!!
Hey Charlie,
Happy new year!!
I’m back home and back with you all.
I’m seriously hoping that this week mimics your first week, as, accourding to scales i’ve also gained 7lbs……yikes!! BUT I dont think this is true and correct and would say most of it is water retention.
Sooooo, let the diet begin and I’ll have a clearer picture by the end of the week.
I’m so happy you didnt gain!! That’s is an accomplishment my friend.
All the best
Anna 😀
PS How come you have 16.6 to go when you weigh 218.8? I thought you first goal was ONEderland?? 😉

Because I read the wrong line on my spreadsheet. Stats have been fixed.
(And I thought no one read this stuff!)

Looks like you beat the Chex Mix in the end afterall.
Obviously we (and you) need both Charlies to keep things balanced!

Yes, I am familiar with the Chex Mix withdrawal – although I am proud to say I still have some of the Chex mix you gave me in our pantry – nice!
Hope you are having a great week!
Love, your prettier sister, Biz

You go Charlie. Keep it up, keep the train going. I made the onderland but still have 20 odd pounds to go. Lost 6 lbs this week, only one the week before and who knows about this week.
Keep going Charlie. Take care and God Bless!!

First time here, but I’ve been a fan of your sister, Biz, for a while! This blog cracked me up!!! I love that chart. Where do you make your charts? Well, I’m usually a glass half empty girl, myself, for some reason always viewing things so realistically that I put a negative spin on them. However, I would totally be rejoicing about that 7 lbs! I’m in a similar situation–I just got back on track this week and lost 4 lbs in one week and am really happy about that, however I’m really worried that it will be hard to get down under my lowest weight of my adult life (I’m only a few pounds from it). I will definitely be subscribing to your blog. Oh, and happy birthday!! 🙂

Boooooooooo you don’t have email subscriptions enabled! Please let you know when you do–it’s the only way I can remember to check blogs.

Weird! I tried to sign up right before I left that last comment and it said you had it disabled. So I went and tried again with no problem. Yay! Thanks.
