If you’re wondering how things are going with the book: they’re not. After a frenzied wrap up earlier this year, things cooled down as I waited for feedback. Then I went on vacation. Then I got back from vacation to a failed hard disk. It took a while (both physically and psychologically) to recover from that. (I didn’t lose any data: but the downtime removed what little wind was left in my sails.)
That’s when I realized I’d hit the wall. But today, after great personal struggle, I forced myself to continue this project. I don’t know why it’s so difficult. Starting a book is fun. Writing it can be a wonderfully fulfilling challenge. Finishing it is like putting off your taxes until the last minute. You’ll come up with any excuse to get to it “tomorrow.” Then you realize Annie was right. Tomorrow is always a day away.
So wish me luck. My diet may have bottomed out already, but I will get this lousy book finished.
