Now That’s More Like It

It was the best of weeks. It was the worst of weeks. After last week’s three pound drop, I figured that was probably just a fluke and things would snap back to normal. Here’s what happened…

Monday: 202

exp-not-badHe kicks off the week down another half pound. Hmmm… Almost makes me wish Monday was the official weigh-in day instead of Sunday. Anyway, after hitting a new low of 202.5 last week I was even more surprised to hit this new, new low just one day later. This is the best start to a week ever. Not bad.

Tuesday: 201.5

exp-say-whaSo imagine my surprise when for the fourth day in a row, I hit yet another new low. Actually, you don’t have to imagine my surprise. There it is. Right over there —>. See how surprised I look? So let me get this straight, a four day streak of 203.5, 202.5, 202.0, and 201.5? I don’t think I can pretend it’s the Fullbars anymore.

Wednesday: 203

exp-oh-wellYeah, I thought things were going a little too well. Just goes to show (once again) if something’s too good to be true, it probably is. While I’m inclined to grumble at gaining a mysterious pound and a half overnight, as the squirrel said to the grasshopper, “You’re still a half pound below last week’s weigh in, Charlie.”

Thursday: 202

exp-oh-wellFully expecting the weight to continue its upswing, things were more or less back to normal Thursday. Not that I have any idea what “normal” means these days. I’m hot and I’m cold, I’m yes and I’m no, I’m up and I’m down. This whole weight loss business makes less sense than Katy Perry’s meteoric rise to stardom. What could happen next?

Friday: 201.5

exp-shockWhat could happen next? Oh, I don’t know. How about tying my latest low point? For the second time this week, life was back to 201.5. (I’d have to travel all the way back to July 2005 to see this kind of number staring up from between my feet. It’s kind of nice I can do this without a flux capacitor.)

Saturday: 201.5

exp-more-shockAfter eating a great deal of pizza Friday night, I experienced even more shock than before, if possible. Just look how much more shocking this was. I hit 201.5 for the third time in a week. What was that again about giving up and just hoping to stay under 206 for the holidays? Onederland is so close I can almost see it, just past that pile of pizza boxes.

Sunday: 204

exp-winceAh! Now that’s more like it. Up two and a half pounds over night. Now I remember what “normal” is. It’s about doing great all week, hitting an all-time low on Saturday, then blowing it in less than twenty-four hours. Granted, I did have a hungry day and I did take in about 3,000 calories. Looking back, I didn’t really need the snickerdoodle cookie or the ice cream. Dessert happens.

Day 140
Starting Weight 224.0
Current Weight 204.0
Change from Last Week +1.5
Lost So Far 20.0
Pounds To Go 5.0

You know, though, considering my BMR dictates that I require 2,500 calories per day, I was really only over by 500. Not only that, I did a lot of moving around too: cleaning the house and putting up decorations. So, no, I don’t know how 500 calories turns into two and a half pounds overnight. It’s just one of life’s great mysteries. A mystery I shall ponder while finishing up the leftover pizza this afternoon.

When did you buy the photo booth? Where did you put it? Is this a new way for Rachel and Sarah to save some quarters? Can all of you fit in it?

Thats hilarious!!
I decided a long time ago to not weigh myself every day because it drives me NUTS!

This is why I CANNOT weigh myself daily. It drives me nuts and being a menopausal woman I’m nuts enough. Speaking of menopause this sort of sounds like it:

“Not that I have any idea what โ€œnormalโ€ means these days. Iโ€™m hot and Iโ€™m cold, Iโ€™m yes and Iโ€™m no, Iโ€™m up and Iโ€™m down. “

Yep, I agree with the others . . .I only weigh myself once a month!

Happy Monday Charlie!

And this is the exact reason I don’t weight myself just once a month. Because I know just one day can be three pounds out-of-whack like this. The day before (and after) could be just fine. I’d be just my luck to weigh myself that one day and mistakenly think that was my number for the month.

I’m a data geek, and despite the pictures and commentary, the daily weight changes are more a source of fascination than frustration. Besides, it’s hard to break an 18-year habit.

Yeah, I weigh myself every day, too. It’s a rare day when I don’t hop on the scale.

I’ve gone up as much as 6 lbs in one day. I’d hate to think THAT was the one day of the month that I chose to weigh!

Hi Charlie.

It was the best of times, and the worst of times. All in a week. And, oh, don’t I know that story.

Hope this week goes great. ๐Ÿ™‚
All the best,
Shea

Charlie,
The pictures are great and as with data any amount and you can overload. Trim your “scaling” back a bit.

Did they have a scale in your hotel room in NYC?

Sometimes the scale just doesn’t get it right.

Love the pictures………………:)

Tom: Nope. Went a week without weighing myself, which was weird. But I survived. And I won’t cut back on the daily weigh-ins. Can’t.

Laura: The main (er, only) reason it’s Sunday is because this category posts Mondays. Besides, the day of the week, in the long run, doesn’t matter. It all evens out eventually. And doing it this way gives me a lot more to talk about.

Your photos and comments made me laugh out loud this morning – my dog looked at me funny, but thanks, I needed it!

I loved the pictures Charlie! Even so, you are doing AWESOME compared to years past! If you haven’t watched The Biggest Loser all season (which I know you haven’t because I’ve asked you before) just watch the season finale tomorrow! That will keep you motivated!

And, don’t look at the beer battered chicken tenders that taste like Long John Silver’s on my site!

I’ve been doing an experiment the past week to watch my daily weight fluctuations. Last week I went down 1 pound, then up 3, then down 1 and held fairly steady there and now today I was back down. It is strange the way our bodies do that, but remember even though weight loss is cals in vs cals out, things such as sodium intake, water retention, recent bathroom breaks, etc… can all have an effect on the scale output!!

Either way, you’re doing an amazing job – and you always crack me up. ๐Ÿ™‚
